The New ThompsonsRealty.com

Welcome to the new (and vastly improved) ThompsonsRealty.com!

Big changes are afoot here!

ThompsonsRealty.com is now running on the Real Estate Webmasters "LEC" platform.

We've got an improved Phoenix home search capability, integrated blog platform (no worries, the Phoenix Real Estate Guy blog is still alive and kicking!), and a back-end contact management system second to none.

Thompson's Realty is always looking to enhance our web presence, and we feel the REW LEC platform is the right tool to take our business to new heights.

Stay tuned!

Things are looking good jay! I hope the LEC performs for you as it has for so many others. I suppose we will see you on the forums a lot more now to huh :)

The new website is awful... hard to use... hard to navigate... and the map doesn't work to show the houses I want in the area I picked. It's v-e-e-e-r-r-ry slow. Too bad. That used to be the best part about it. You could zero in on the area you are interested in and see all the listings. I sure miss that. you used to have the best website for real estate in Phoenix.

Sharon -

Thanks for the feedback. If you could give me more details on what area the map isn't working for you, it would be helpful. It seems to be working for me.

Change is difficult. My hope is that when this site is fully built-out users will find it useful and easy to use.

In the mean time, we still have a site that has the former home search installed on it. You are more than welcome to use the search there. It can be found at http://PhoenixRealEstateGuy.com (or http://TPREG.com if that's easier to remember).

One thing that will help your map search load much faster initially is picking a center point and some prelim selections like "phoenix" "residential" "min price = $150,000 max price = $350,000 (pick whatever range is going to give popular searches) min beds 3 min baths 2 etc

Jay you would just tell your programmer to set those for you and the initial load of your map search should be much faster.

Sharon - I am the developer of this product and we are certainly keen on hearing feedback and as a new launch (yesterday) there may still be some speed optimization items or bugs that need to be worked out - we really appreciate the feedback and will be watching this thread if you could give us more info such as what browser you are using, what kind of connection you have, specific URL's that are giving you grief in terms of speed etc - rest assured we (And more importantly Jay and his team) are committed to providing you with the best search experience possible.

I like the new site. It is TOTALLY different, so the simple fact is, some will like it, some won't, some won't care either way.

Speed seems fine (on Firefox, I try to avoid IE), and I'm behind a corporate firewall that usually bogs down everything.

One thing I did notice that I think could be better.

If I go to the map search and select a town (say Gilbert) and put in some price/beds/bath criteria, the search does indeed speed up. BUT the map does not recenter. It stays on its initial centering. I know I can pan around, but this could be problematic for people searching if they don't know where these locations are.

For example, put Apache Junction into the box above the map. The map stays centered on the east valley -- but Apache Junction is too far to the east to be shown on the initial map. It should (I think) recenter over Apache Junction.

An alternative might be to have the initial map more zoomed out, but the Phoenix metro area is pretty darn big.

Congratulations on the new site. It looks great! Very classic, easy color scheme.

As noted, the map search is slow. I think Morgan's suggestion will help.

One other suggestion, I didn't see a lot of search options when doing the standard home search. No garage or pool option. This is more of a personal choice.

Here are 2 specifics you may want to tell your web guy:

A few of your properties (Gilbert) showed a map location that wasn't even in Arizona. I think one was in Canada, and the other was in the midwest somewhere. The address said, "Gilbert, AZ", but when the map located the address, it was somewhere else completely different.

Second, I tried to locate home in a specific map area, and when I tried to some into a specific block of a neighborhood, it would show it for a second, and then pop back to the original map (before zooming). After several times it stayed, but it was a pain.

Just a few glitches you might want to look into.

Otherwise the new sight, is nice, and so was the old one.

I am not a fan of the new website. I used this site because it was easy, quick and gave me a lot of options to search. This site is much slower, harder to navigate and opens too many windows. I miss the list of houses next to the map, and all the great details listed with the houses are gone.

I'm on the side of dislike. The other deliverable worked fine, and while there wasn't as many search options to fine tune - it was more functional.

Examples include:

* drilling into a neighborhood is too slow
* you now ask for credentials, previous iteration didn't

We all don't have a high level of RAM on our boxes, so sites should be adjusted for a lower common denominator.

Change for change sake, sometimes isn't good change.

Thanks for the feedback Michael.

The site wasn't changed for the sake of change. This platform is much more powerful and flexible then the previous one. Additional functionality will be added over time.

The previous site is still available at ThompsonsRealty.NET for those that prefer it.

My hope is this new platform will, over time, become everything (and more) that the old platform was.

I appreciate the feedback, that helps me prioritize necessary improvements!

Another note for your computer tech, in Chandler 2 listings came up on the Chandler map, but the city they were labeled as was Buckeye (MLS #4164312) and Mesa (MLS#4135293).

I loved your old site. With that said, if the new one ultimately becomes as resourceful as the old, I will love it too. The new site definitely looks great.

Jay, you have a great website. I'm a Realtor in the Philadelphia area and I truly admire the new design and navigation. Sometimes it takes a while for your users to get used to the new design, but overtime, people will get used to it and will appreciate everything that you've built.

Hey Jay,
We are all creatures of habit.

When some of us become comfortable, it is difficult to make change.

When I ramped up my REW site, I had one regular visitor to the old site that just didn't like it! However, when I explained all of the new ways to search and all of the new ways for his property listings to be found by buyers, he became more receptive and in the end after discovering the new navigation's he liked it quite a bit.

Other than that particular one, I had no complaints, but had literally dozens of unexpected " I love this site" messages and thanking me for providing so many different ways of searching for property that was simply not available on other sites in my area.

I am sure that if we weren't creatures of habit, the few negatives you heard would have been more receptive on the front end and still likely will be on the back end.

You are going to love the leadmanager and will be able to be much more effective with "on target" follow up.

I look forward to watching this project rock and roll just as all of yours do.

I haven't noticed a way to filter foreclosures and/or short sales. My searches keep coming up with a bunch of short sales, which I'm not interested in. I would, however, consider a foreclosure. The previous site included a filter option for foreclosures and shortsales. Am I missing something or does that option need to be added to the new site? Other than that, I love this site.

Jay, I just purchased an LEC4 myself. If would be great if I could get to know you a bit better. Why did you purchase a webmasters website when you already had a page rank 5 site with wordpress?
