The Gilbert Unified School District (GUSD) is consistently ranked among the highest in the state. With an enrollement of over 35,000 students in 26 elementary schools, 6 junior high schools and 5 high schools, the GUSD is a rapidly growing disctict. Despite the growth, the Gilbert public schools achieve excellent testing scores, student:teacher ratios and quality of life for the students.

Academic Achievements from 2005/2006
- 100% of GPS students eligible for graduation met state requirements
- Scholarships awarded to students graduating in 2006 totaled approximately $16.9 million
- A Desert Ridge High teacher wins a $25,000 Milken National Educator Award
- A Finley Farms Elementary teacher and a Mesquite Junior High teacher were named Distinguished Educators by governor Janet Napolitano
- Ashland Ranch Elementary is named an Arizona State University/Arizona Department of Education Benchmark School
- Gilbert Public Schools was selected by the Valley of the sun United Way as the East Valley organization of the Year
